A chance meeting between Ernie Alexander and Nic Oldert, both dedicated investors, highlighted a significant challenge in the financial sector: accessing accurate and timely investment information in the aftermath of the 1987 stock market crash. At the time, printed information was frequently outdated, and production methods were far from efficient.
Ernie had already launched his first publication, the Financial Markets Handbook, while Nic focused on using emerging IT solutions to strengthen databases and optimise data delivery. Their shared vision and complementary expertise led to a 20-year business partnership that transformed the company into a leader in financial publishing.
Over time, the business expanded its portfolio to include four regular financial market titles, catering to a growing audience of investors. Recognising the industry's shift towards digital solutions, a recruitment drive added the third shareholder and head of IT, Johann du Preez who helped the company evolve into a cutting-edge financial distribution hub, seamlessly serving both retail and institutional markets.
For retail investors, the company offered subscription-based products covering all aspects of fundamental and pricing information, empowering them to make informed decisions. On the institutional side, it delivered bespoke IT-driven solutions, ensuring efficient and tailored data distribution to meet the unique needs of professional clients.
The Profile Group and its subsidiaries have successfully established an exciting niche in the market, moving beyond our early reputation as "the new kids on the block". Today, our data products and solutions are frequently preferred over those of larger competitors, reflecting our innovation and market appeal.
With a dedicated team of 38 employees, the company thrives under the leadership of Johann du Preez, the current Managing Director. Looking ahead, the Profile Group is preparing to launch an array of exciting new products, while focusing on strengthening its core business by increasing market share.
