PROFILEDATA UPGRADES WEB SERVERS

[JOHANNESBURG, THURSDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2009]

ProfileData is in the final stages of upgrading its internet hosting infrastructure with the installation of a cluster of load-balanced servers.

ProfileData’s hosting infrastructure provides numerous datafeed and web hosting services to clients, as well as hosting Profile’s own ShareData Online, FundsData Online and Financial Markets Directory websites.

Network Load Balancing (NLB) is a clustering technology provided with Microsoft’s server operating systems that balances Internet Protocol (IP) network traffic between a number of servers. This technology allows Profile to create a NLB cluster of servers which provides the following benefits to clients:

Improved Redundancy: In the unlikely event of a complete server failure, the load will automatically be distributed to the other servers in the cluster without any disruption in the service. (This is over and above RAID arrays on each server providing first level redundancy against any hard drive failure.)

Increased Performance: Incoming requests for web pages, FTP connections and web services are spread across the servers in the cluster, allowing for optimal response times.

Better Scalability: New servers can quickly and easily be added to the cluster to extend the hosting capabilities as Profile’s data services and client base grow.

Profile is currently upgrading all delivery systems to ensure that the data on all servers in the cluster are perfectly synchronised in real time. This will ensure a consistent response to client requests, regardless of the server delivering the content.

Historically, ProfileData's uptime out of the server environment is better than 99.99%. Profile's new cluster technology will ensure continued uptime of close to 100% for all clients.
