Profile has calculated performance statistics independently since 1995 using the same methodology as the University of Pretoria (Tukkies). Profile has historically worked with Professor Hugo Lambrechts of Tukkies on the verification of quarterly unit trust statistics.

Profile now produces statistics monthly for both domestic and Financial Services Board-registered offshore funds, which are not produced by Tukkies and cannot be verified via them. Profile has introduced rigorous, independent verification procedures, which ensure the accuracy of their statistics. Profile will continue to work with Tukkies on cross-checking underlying data on which all industry stats are based.

Profile will in future quote nominal percentage returns rather than effective returns for monthly debit order investments. "The Tukkies method is difficult for investors to understand", says Profile MD, Nic Oldert. "We believe our method makes more sense to investors, and is more consistent with the way lump sum returns are quoted."
